I was casually browsing through the pages of a fitness magazine when I stumbled upon this:
You and 9 of your closest friends running day and night, relay-style, through some of the most scenic terrain North Luzon could muster. Add in local foods, inside jokes and a mild case of sleep deprivation. The result? Some call it a slumber party without sleep, pillows or deodorant. We call it Epic Relay…
- 10 teammates
- Subic base to Zambales towns to Bataan Mt. Samat, 250 km in total, more or less…
- Two days and one night in a van… with intermittent bursts of running
- World War 2 landmarks, gorgeous countryside and a fantastic coastline, the monuments of Mt. Samat and a great new finish line!
Your relay team will consist of 10 members. During the relay, each team member runs three legs, each leg ranging from 4 – 12K and varying in difficulty.
Each team is responsible for providing two support vehicles, with five runners in each vehicle. The first vehicle will drop off the first runner, drive ahead a few kilometer, cheer the runner on, and provide them with water, snacks, and plenty of love. That vehicle will then drive ahead to the first exchange point to drop off the second runner, and pick up the first runner when that leg is complete. They will repeat this pattern for five legs until they hand off to their second vehicle. This leapfrogging pattern will continue all the way to the finish line.
More information about this event is available at http://site.epicrelay.info/. Anyone up for this epic relay? 😀

This is not like hood to coast but it is exactly like ragnar relay. Chris Sports even put a content copyright notice at the bottom of the page when they actually lifted almost the entire page word for word from http://www.ragnarrelay.com/.

your right. i know these people. i asked about this and they said its a work in progress. the ads in the fitness mag should not have even came out since the dates were not final. unfortunately the magazine published it. they also confirmed that ragnar relay is the inspiration for this but they are still waiting for the copywriter to change the wordings but keep the idea. Kaya daw di pa dapat publicly announced.

We’ll it’s too late now, somebody’s bound to find it since their ad appeared on the magazine (that’s the purpose of advertising it, right?) and with this maybe the organizers would be pressured a little to push through with it 🙂
In the first place they can always put their announcements on their website for changes, I’m just a messenger.

Just my opinion from a participant’s POV.
Event organizers and Chris Sports were meh. When you called one, they would throw it to the other and no preparednes in answering queries. No water stations, info dissemination was rushed and substandard. No roaming marshalls between stops. No way to catch cheaters. We even saw one cheat his way through Mt. Samat uphill run by running through the trail in between the road curves…the team was a sponsor though. and they won a fun award at the end. Promises of a buffet and after party near the end and it was also lackluster. No finisher shirt or singlet. Adjusting of race kilometers during the race itself, also adjustment of the race route. Would prolly help if there were a bit more signs also. They promised a lootbag but it was actually x-deal giveaways of their sponsors given before the race to the teams. etc etc.
well, its a first. a lot of runners joined it for that and for it being really epic and a group effort. But if another company with a better budget would take the idea, it would be more successful next time, for sure. The concept is so good that even if the organizers were almost epic lacking, i’d still probably join haha. Your fellow runners and other participants, the venue and distance made it epic in itself. Still highly recommended, just that I wish that it was better organized and executed.
