A Weekend of Adventure (Preview)

This weekend is one of the busier weekends as far as running is concerned: five races are simultaneously held, two of which are in Bohol!  Beginning with Metro Manila: the FINEX Run in SM Mall of Asia, The FS Run is Bonifacio Global City, and The Green Mile in Ayala Alabang.  Elsewhere, in Bohol, there’s the Tagbilaran leg of the National MILO® Marathon, and The North Face Thrill of the Trail in Danao.  It’s probably the same time that I saw two races simultaneously held in a province.

Five races, one long weekend

With so many races to choose from runners is practically guaranteed of a great weekend.  As for yours truly, I picked the one that is sure to bring me another adventure of a lifetime: TNF Thrill of the Trail.  Trails have always been my favorite and I’ve joined most of the Thrill of the Trail legs since I started running.  This trail run series holds a special place in my heart as it introduced me to the joy of trail running, and this would be the first time I’m joining its leg outside Luzon (also my first race in Visayas).  Not only am I now going to get there, I’m actually going to run there!  And not just on any trail—on the trails of the world famous Chocolate Hills!  River crossings are also expected, to spice things up.

Naturally I won’t be going to Bohol just for the race.  I’ve always dreamt of going to Bohol, particularly for its famous beaches.  And since most of my friends have already fixed their schedules for CamSur marathon two weeks henceforth, I probably am going to go solo.  And so to make things a bit easier for the soloist runner cum tourist that is me, I joined an organized three days and two nights tour.  Here are some of our itineraries:

  • Panglao Island Tour:
    • Hinagdanan Cave
    • Alona Beach
    • Bohol Bee Farm
  • Tagbilaran Tour:
    • Chocolate Hills
    • Butterflies Conservation Garden
    • Loboc River Cruise
    • Tarsiers
    • Blood Compact Site
    • Baclayon Church and Museum

Did I mention that the race is in Danao?  A buffet awaits us after finishing the trails, at EAT Danao.  I’m not sure what attractions I’ll be able to do while in the adventure park, but I’m hoping maximize the experience.  It’s not part of the tour or race package, but I sure hope we get discounts!

I’ll be transforming into a full-fledge tourist this weekend so right after the race I’ll jump island and spend time with the Queen City of the South, Cebu City!  I’m not really sure what I can do with my slightly more than 24-hour stay in the city (any suggestions?) and I’d love to run around given the chance (anyone wants to tour me around?).  Topping my Cebu itinerary would of course be the Basilica of Sto. Niño and Magellan’s cross, and I can’t forget the lechon!

Whatever you’d be doing, or wherever you may be, I hope you all have a great weekend ahead!  It’s another “surprise” long weekend here in the Philippines, and I suggest you don’t spend it all slouching. 🙂

Your weekend adventure awaits!  Money can be earned back, time cannot.  Use it wisely.
