Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2011 Registration is now CLOSED

One of my highly anticipated races of 2011, the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, has opened its doors yesterday, and then abruptly closed again!

When I first got news that the SCHK Marathon had just opened its registration I immediately rushed to the site to register (this was last night).  When I got to the event selection I noticed that the full marathon option was disabled.  I thought it was just a glitch or the full marathon registration hasn’t opened yet online.  Today I was confronted with the truth: it was disabled because it was actually all filled up!

Here’s the announcement from SCHK’s website:

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2011 has received overwhelming public response. The 10km Run 3 (Start Time: 6:55am), 10km Run 4 (Start Time: 7:30am), the Half Marathon Run 1 (Start Time: 8:45am), the Full Marathon Challenge (Start Time: 6:20am) and the Full Marathon Run 1 (Start Time: 6:45am) are now closed for entry.

By today, just about a day since registration was open, most events, if not all, reached its quotas, and is now closed.  This is indeed a sad news for me as I was really looking forward to this race.  Oh well, maybe I’m destined to run locally that date, or maybe another foreign destination later?

That was why I was waiting to register first before buying tickets as these races get “sold” pretty fast! Well I hope you get to enjoy the race even from a spectator’s perspective 🙂

Hi! I signed up on the first hour and got lucky. I think many signed up for 2011 SCHKM because they have a more liberal cut-off next year (6:00) But this is nothing compared to Boston Marathon (2011) which closed after only 7 hours. To think you have to qualify in order to reg. Di lang pala dapat mabilis tumakbo para maka Boston, dapat mabilis din mag register. Hehe.
