Sunrise Events, Inc. headed by its President and Chairman and also Alaska Milk CEO Fred Uytengsu–the same people who have brought to us the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 race in the Philippines for two years in a row has again brought to Philippine shores another world-renowned sporting brand.
XTERRA, said to be the “de facto world championship of off-road triathlons,” XTERRA Philippines had just recently held its initial off-road race, a biathlon called “Putik Pare” last month at Nuvali, Sta Rosa, Laguna. This January 30, 2011, XTERRA Philippines is set to hold its trail running race dubbed as “Pang Rave Run,” at the Tagaytay Midlands.

Yesterday, Sunrise Events, Inc. brought yours truly, along with several blogger/runner friends, over to Tagaytay Midlands for a quick tour of the area where this exciting race will be staged. The starting/finishing area would be at the Golf Club so if you’re driving to the area on race day I highly suggest that you familiarize yourself on how to get there (as we learned the hard way) if you’re not already acquainted with the place.
As already stated, XTERRA is a class of its own when it comes to off-road races as already attested by its previous race, “Putik Pare,” and now with Tagaytay Midlands as “Pang Rave Run’s” playground it would definitely be more exciting—nice cool weather, “interesting” terrain, and a great venue.

The first impression I got with this race was its higher than the usual registration fee, but our sources indicate that it’s practically a steal given all the perks you’d get. First, there’s the XTERRA race belt and XTERRA visor (exclusive for 21K) which not many may be interested in. Then there’s the finisher’s shirt that’s not your typical shirt but at par with expensive technical shirts. And then there’s the buffet breakfast at the Golf Club. Did I mention the grocery bag, I mean, the loot bag? All these combined, not to mention a race to remember, it’s more than worth it.
Shuttle Service
XTERRA will provide a shuttle service for participants, to and from Tagaytay Highlands on a first come, first served basis, departing at 3AM and 3:30AM from Bonifacio Global City and returning at 11AM and 2PM. According to the website it costs an additional ₱250.

I run in Corregidor Challenge recently and its my 21k debut. may ask if the terrain is the same as in Corregidor? boz if its worst than the Rock then I might settle on the 10k category. Thanks and my support to your web.

All I can say is that no two trails are the same. I don’t have any idea on how Corregidor was, but for XTERRA you’d be scaling a mountain! (Although the Race Director mentioned it’s not “technical”)

dhenz, i’m so tempted to join, but i haven’t been running for about a year now…kayanin ko kaya itong trail na ito? 10K pa…would you know how difficult it is? thanks 🙂

Based on the teaser photo on FB I think you may treat it as a minor ‘climb’ 🙂
But seriously it seems like XTERRA races are the ‘it’ races when it comes to the trail, so regardless of the time to finish it I’m sure it’ll be fun! (I honestly don’t know how difficult it is)
