Boracay is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Philippines and is one of the best beaches in the world, but sometimes tourism does have it pitfalls and sometimes nature takes the toll. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do something about it, through running?
Currently, there are many challenges that face Boracay. Some of these are natural like sea level rise, beach erosion, etc. but a lot of it are man-made:
At this rate we may not recognize Boracay a few years from now. So what can we do to help? If you’re spending your Holy Week in the island, why not add an advocacy run to your itinerary?
Sali Ako Fun Run: Help Preserve Boracay Beach aims to create awareness and start an advocacy in keeping our environment clean. It also aims to raise funds for the activities of Boracay projects for its efforts particularly for ordinance number 2001-141 “An ordinance banning the extractions and collection of white sand and pebbles in the beaches of Boracay Island.” Without Boracay’s sands, it won’t be Boracay as we know it.
This project is in partnership and supported by NGO in Boracay such as Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Municipality of Malay, Aklan. This event is being organized by Unlimited Events Inc. with Coach Joar Calvadores as its Race Director. Here are the event particulars:
