Philippine Independence Day Races

The 113th Independence Day of the Republic of the Philippines will be held on June 12, 2011, a Sunday.  And what does Sunday means as far as running is concerned?  Race day of course!  Strangely though, there was supposed to be a half marathon race to commemorate the day, but until now there’s absolutely no details about it!

I’ve been receiving some inquiries about the said event lately, and to answer once and for all these questions whether it would push through or not, my response would be, “I don’t know.”  I tried googling it several times, but all I can get are the event name, distances, date, and alleged location–nothing more!  My instincts would tell me that if this was a serious event, we would’ve heard much more details about it, somewhere.

To those who have looked forward to racing that Independence weekend, I have some suggested alternatives.  If you’re looking for a half marathon, you may opt for Mizuno Infinity Run, but it comes a day earlier (Saturday, June 11).  If you still clamor for a Sunday run, I found the Philippine Run 2011 as an option, but its longest event is much shorter at 10K.

Still not good enough for you?  Well, why not try running your own routes from one of my top places to run in Metro Manila?  These places are accessible, open to the public, and most of all, free of charge.  I’ll just advise you though to avoid these areas if a race is being staged.

Still, there’s still some time before June 12 arrives, there’s still some chance for this event to be “revived.”  I’ll keep you guys posted for any development about this race so please do check from time to time (new events, updates, and announcements are posted every Mondays and Fridays; regularly via Facebook).  For the meantime I’ve removed it from my race calendar.

To the race organizer of subject, I’m just a comment away for your clarifications!  And don’t worry, I don’t charge.

Oy di naman much-ado hehe… Free advertisement nga eh para alam ng tao kung matutuloy o hindi. Wala kasing kahit anong info.

(Apparently some people think that events announced on this blog are paid! I just clarified it :D)
