The Champion’s Chase: The 2nd Corregidor International Half-Marathon

Finally, I’ll be able to tick off another item in my bucket list of running places this year: Corregidor.  I highly look up to the great valor our forefathers had shown during the Second World War so you can just imagine how excited I am to know that this year’s Corregidor International Half Marathon will not be in conflict with another major race in the region!

Corregidor is logically the next frontier after doing Bataan.  I guess I need not explain how relevant the island of Corregidor is for the Allied Forces and WWII that’s why for those who love history like I do, a visit to this “rock” is a must.

As a runner, what’s in it for you?  Well, aside from running on historical grounds, you’d be faced by its infamous hills!  Anyone who had been on the island will tell that conquering Corregidor is easier said than done!  They even say that a 21K in the island would require an effort equivalent to that of 42K!  Scared?

If the half marathon is too intimidating for you but you don’t want to be left out, fret not, there’s a 10K side event for you.  Despite being less than a quarter of a marathon, the challenge is still there as you’d still be running on “the rock.”

I wanted to join this event, it looks exciting. Only problem is I am coming from Bataan, so I am just a small boat away to corregidor. Will they consider participants who are coming from the other side of the island. I think it will be tedious to travel around to manila.

I’ll ask the organizers your concern. Will update this post when I got an answer. 🙂

Update from the race organizers: For this kind of special situation, interested participants will be given a P600 off from the regular rate (P2500) so the they only have to pay P1900 if they register until Nov 20. If they register between Nov 21 – Dec 4 (late registration period) they could just pay P2400. No onsite (on Dec 10 at the island) will be entertained. All interested parties may email their intent to cihm21@yahoo.com.ph.
