Run BGC 2013: Takbonifacio

Did you know that this year our national hero Andres Bonifacio turns 150?  To commemorate this event, Bonifacio Global City will be holding a unique run entitled Takbonifacio.  And believe me when I say that this race is unique: read on to find out why.

Takbonifacio will be held on a Saturday afternoon (3PM), on November 30, 2013 at Bonifacio High Street Central.  The event is exclusively a 5K event but it is lined with obstacles and activities along the route.  Participants will be wearing a belt with “life flags” (to be given on race day) which will be attempted to be taken away by the many Guwardiya Sibil.  You’ll need to have at least one flag remaining after the race if you want to qualify for the raffle which consists of five (5) minor prizes worth ₱20,000 and a grand prize worth ₱50,000.

Because Andres Bonifacio is known for the Katipunan, participants are encouraged to wear Katipunero or Filipiniana attire.  To help jumpstart your costume, a neckerchief will be given along with your race bib upon registration so you can pick it up from there.  There will be cash prizes for the male, female, kid, and battalion best in costume.  A battalion is a registered group of at least 50 persons.

The obstacles that the participants will face is grouped into stations named after historic places in Metro Manila: San Juan, where Guwardiya Sibil armed with water soakers will be “attacking” the participants; Pinaglabanan, where an army of Guwardiya Sibil will be chasing participants for their life flags; Rizal, where you should look out for Andres Bonifacio who will be giving away free life flags; Marikina, where participants would either climb up a giant inflatable slide or crawl inside tunnels where Guwardiya Sibil awaits on the other side; and Balintawak, where participants will express themselves and write why they are proud to be a Filipino.

Registration fee is ₱500 but if you work or reside in Bonifacio Global City, the fee is only ₱150.  It is also ₱150 for groups of 50 or more (aka “battalion”) and kids aged 5 to 12 years old (parental consent required).  As mentioned earlier, a neckerchief in included with the race bib upon registration.  Takbonifacio souvenir shirts with goodies from sponsors are included in the loot bag.
