Getting a Fix at Summit Wellness Center

Like a machine, our bodies get worn out especially if we live active lifestyles.  This is why occasionally we need a little “tune up” to get us back into our best shape.  Luckily, Summit Wellness Center found me and offered me to try one of their physical therapy sessions to get me back to my optimum self.

I have not had any massage or any treatment of sorts for a very, very long time and as such I do feel that my body really needed it, particularly in my neck area.  I’m not a therapist so I don’t have that much extensive knowledge on self-help therapy, and I can only do so much by myself when it comes to my neck.  And I guess I reached a point that I really needed to ask professional help.

Summit Wellness Center is a Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Clinic located at the West Tower of Tektite, along Exchange Road in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.  Their aim is to help patients gain back their normal, pain-free movement at the soonest time possible.  I’m not necessarily in bad shape, but I could definitely use some relief!  Their list of services include:

Just some of Summit Wellness Center’s famous clientele

  • Physical Therapy
  • Manual Therapy
  • Cryotherapy
  • Electrotherapy
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Exercise Prescription / Implementation
  • Athletic / Kinesio Taping

And they provide treatment for:

  • Leg / Knee Pain
  • Thigh Pain
  • Back / Lower Back Pain
  • Shoulder / Neck Pain
  • Ankle Sprain
  • Hip Pain
  • Muscle Pain
  • Surgical Pain

Since I don’t have any pains anywhere but do have some discomfort in my neck, that’s the area I had treated in Summit Wellness Center.

I was quite surprised how big Summit Wellness Center’s floor area is.  They have a full gym, big locker room, dance studio, and a separate section for therapy sessions.  They don’t just provide lying or sitting down therapy as they also a gym at their own disposal should your therapy necessitates the need.

My therapy started with a brief interview on my case.  I was handled by Jerace and Ren, and they do have professional eyes as they can see immediately the issues I have with my neck and shoulder area.  It started with some warm compress to heat up the muscles, followed with ultrasound to heat muscles deeper from the surface.  I had to ask what the ultrasound was for as honestly, I didn’t feel anything!  I was told that our heat receptors are on the skin (superficial) and can’t detect heat from within, so that was expected.

After the warm-up stage came the actual therapy itself.  It started with some electro-stimulation followed by actual massage.  Since it was quite a while since my last massage, it wasn’t that “easy.” But it was all worth it.  Then we had some exercise routines to help address my issues.  I kind of feel sorry for Jerace as she had to massage my neck hard and long to fix it, and Ren as he had to bear with my strength as he pulls the other way during our exercise routines.

Finally, the session ended with some cold compress.
