Typing emojis on mobile phones is nothing new but is anything but simple when it comes to the desktop.  Thankfully there are guides and sites out there that lets you conveniently copy and paste these emojis for our use but for my personal convenience I thought of writing one as well for reference.

The emojis you see here were encoded using iOS 8.3 and uses the platform’s grouping categories.  I’ve separated some of the newer emojis which are, as of the moment, not fully supported outside iOS and OS X and are normally rendered as separate emojis instead of one.  Note that WordPress may be overriding the default rendering of these emojis (to make them render on old browsers that don’t support emojis) so they may change appearance as it’s loading and may not appear as expected (particularly the newer emojis).  Feel free to copy them though for your use! 😀

Emojis (絵文字 or えもじ) originated in Japan and literally means “picture” (e) + “character” (moji).  Outside Japan, emoji was first incorporated by Apple in the iOS in 2011 and was followed suit by Android and other mobile platforms.  On the desktop, Apple OS X and Microsoft Windows 8 supports them but only the former makes it so easy to input.  If you’re using the latter, copy and paste from web pages like this is your workaround.
