The 39th National MILO® Marathon

The Manila Eliminations leg of the 39th National MILO® Marathon is fast approaching so better prepare your MILO® empty packs and “fit to run” medical certificates.  It still is probably the cheapest race in Metro Manila and the half-marathon is now a qualifying race for the marathon at the finals in Angeles City on December 06, 2015.

MILO® Marathon (Finals) could be considered the Boston Marathon of the Philippines because of its strict qualifying time in order to join.  It is the country’s longest-running marathon and due to its popularity, it could possibly be the culprit as to why many Filipinos erroneously refer to fun runs, regardless of distance, as “marathons.”  (Just to clarify, a marathon race is 42.195 kilometers long.)  The elimination races are open to all individuals but the marathon event during the finals is open only to qualifiers.

There is now more than one way to qualify to the finals.  It still involves finishing the race in your specified age-bracket qualifying time, but now you may do it in either full or half-marathon not only in any MILO® elimination races in the country as any AIMS/IAAF accredited race will do (for overseas runners; should be within a year prior to race day with proof of finish time).  The age-brackets and qualifying times are below:

42K 21K
Age Group Men Women Men Women
18-34 3:55:00 4:30:00 1:40:00 1:50:00

50-54 4:15:00 4:50:00 2:00:00 2:10:00

70 & up 4:40:00 5:50:00 2:20:00 2:30:00

All expenses to the finals are to be shouldered by the participant except if you finish the 21K in 1:15:00 (men) or 1:35:00 (women) wherein you’d get an all-expenses paid trip to Angeles City.

Note of the following cut-off times:

21K 2:30:00
10K 1:30:00
