Nike Launches the Unlimited Stadium to Unlock the Potential of Filipinos

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Nike’s Unlimited campaign continues with the launch of the video ‘Unlimited You’ and the Unlimited Stadium, a space in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila’s iconic running hub.  From August 05 to 21, the Unlimited Stadium features a digitally-enabled running track and challenges Filipinos to unlock their potential through running events and services for the next 17 days.  It will be open from 4PM to 10PM, daily.

Unlimited Stadium

Nike reimagined the running track and created the Unlimited Stadium, a space in the shape of a 100-foot sole print of the Nike LunarEpic Low Flyknit, one of Nike Running’s latest footwear innovations.  It is a digital and physical experience, featuring a 200-meter running track lined with LED screens, and bringing Nike experiences, products and services together to inspire and enable runners to go beyond their limits.

Every day, runners are invited in a race against digital avatars of themselves that grow in size based on the speed and distance they run, motivating runners to push and do more than they thought possible.  Runners will be rewarded as they complete each challenge, with an epic run experience by Nike as the ultimate reward.

“The Unlimited Stadium is designed to encourage people to push beyond their limits, and to celebrate the spirit of doing more than what you thought was ever possible.  Especially in the next 17 days when the world watches the best athletes on the planet defy expectations, Nike enables Filipinos with the opportunity to do the same through the Unlimited Stadium, innovations and the Nike+ community,” said Bulbul Khera, Senior Director for Marketing, Nike Southeast Asia.

Join and discover your unlimited potential through Nike+ challenges, powered by the Nike+ Running and Training Club apps, available for download at the Apple and Android store.  For more information on the challenges and schedule of events at the Unlimited Stadium, go to www.nike.com/manila, or call the hotline at (+63 2) 463 4814.

We then moved to Bonifacio Global City to have an early preview of the Unlimited Stadium.  As you may have seen from the photo above, the Unlimited Stadium features a track in the shape of the sole print of the Nike LunarEpic Flyknit.  It is also lined with LED screens and there’s an overpass in the middle so the central part does not intersect on the same level.  And of course we won’t just stand around to admire the track—we’re there to actual test what the fuzz is all about with this stadium!

But first, we have to put on our Nike LunarEpic Flyknit

Coach Rio personally lead our warmup

We then formed a line in each of the three lanes

And this is the start!

If you didn’t notice, we were all wearing RFID tags on our shoes, both on the left and right, similar to what was used in Runrio races a few years ago.  There are sensors placed on the track, one at the starting line and another at the finish area, to monitor our time.  The first lap allows the system to figure out how fast a person is running and get his average speed.  On the second lap, an avatar of the runner is shown on the screen approximating where the runner should be based on his/her previous lap.  This avatar was created when we register to get our shoes and matching RFID, and was made based on our preferences.

My avatar (Dhenz) and Redg’s (Redg) on our first lap

We were challenged to complete four (4) laps and beat our avatars.  It’s actually quite fun to see your avatar running alongside you and can give you some pressure if you see it start overtaking you!

View from the top of the overpass

In the end I went over the four laps as I lost count but I don’t really mind as it’s quite fun to run around the track with my avatar trying to catch up.

Your passport is your placeholder for stamps (a.k.a. milestones) which you can exchange for items.  These “milestones” are achieved from various activities and running the Unlimited Stadium for the first time is one of them.
