aRM Represent: Captain Martie Plaza represents adidas Runners Manila at the 2019 Berlin Marathon
Manila, Philippines—On September 29, adidas Philippines gave adidas Runners Manila Captain Martie Plaza the opportunity to complete the 42-kilometer Berlin Marathon at Berlin, Germany. The BMW Berlin Marathon is one of the six marathons in the Abbott World Marathon Majors, a series of the largest and most prestigious marathons across the globe.
This was Martie’s second marathon, her first one being the New York City Marathon 2017. Since becoming the co-captain of adidas Runners Manila earlier this year, Martie leads the bi-weekly tempo and speed sessions, which she says helped increase her stamina and speed in time for the marathon. More than just physical training, she says what helped her get through the marathon was the support she got from family, friends, and the adidas Runners community. During the race itself, the cheers from fellow adidas Runners from all over the world kept her energy up as she ran her last few kilometers.
“Late athlete Gabe Grunewald said: ‘Don’t give up on the things that make you feel alive.’ Running makes me feel alive and I am very grateful for the opportunity to represent AR Manila in something as prestigious as the Berlin Marathon where I got to do what I love to do,” she said.
Finishing at 3 hours and 28 minutes, Martie showed the effect of her hard work, passion, and discipline in achieving her running goals. Just like Martie, you, too, can work on your running goals at adidas Runners Manila.
