Bohol + Cebu (2014): The Churches of Bohol

Every year for the past four years I’ve been constantly going to Cebu to start my year with Cebu City Marathon (CCM).  This year was no different, except that the places I love had changed due to the strong earthquake that rocked the region last year.  With that, my itinerary had also changed: I decided to just donate my CCM registration fee and support the locals in my own small way by visiting the areas affected.  I fortunately had planned for a four day getaway so I had time to explore both Cebu and Bohol.

Goodbye for now, Manila!

Marathons: More Fun in the Philippines

Running had become the “it” sport in urban centers in the Philippines these past few years with races achieving “world-class” levels, and if I were to pick three amongst the best in the country, the list would look something like this:

See how much we love running here in the Philippines? 🙂

The Great Visayan Adventure (Preview)

After five days and five nights in Bohol and Cebu, it’s now back to reality.  With tons of photos and a few videos to process, not to mention heaps of emails to read and respond to (both from work, media relations, personal messages, etc.) I can’t begin to imagine how to start sharing those wonderful adventures I’ve had!  Well this is me attempting to give you some idea what happened with my grand adventure vacation:

At Alona Beach, Panglao Island

A Weekend of Adventure (Preview)

This weekend is one of the busier weekends as far as running is concerned: five races are simultaneously held, two of which are in Bohol!  Beginning with Metro Manila: the FINEX Run in SM Mall of Asia, The FS Run is Bonifacio Global City, and The Green Mile in Ayala Alabang.  Elsewhere, in Bohol, there’s the Tagbilaran leg of the National MILO® Marathon, and The North Face Thrill of the Trail in Danao.  It’s probably the same time that I saw two races simultaneously held in a province.

Five races, one long weekend

QC, QCIM, October, and 2009

How does QC (Quezon City), QCIM (Quezon City International Marathon), October, and 2009 relate to each other?  Aside from the obvious relationship of QC and QCIM, the staging of the first QCIM on October, 2009 was not a coincidence (or was it?).

As most residents of Quezon City know we celebrate Quezon City Day every August 19th, the birth date of the late President Manuel L. Quezon (August 19, 1878) whom the city was named after.  So why was the QCIM not held last August and instead this October?  Quezon City was actually established on October 12, 1939 so this October, 2009 is the 70th anniversary of the city.  Isn’t an international event such as the QCIM a great way to celebrate this event?  Happy Anniversary QC!

The Quezon Memorial Monument is 66 meters (217 feet) tall because it was President Manuel L. Quezon’s age when he died).  The three vertical pylons represent Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and the three mourning angels that surmount it are actually holding sampaguita wreaths.

QCIM Update

Pacers for both full and half marathon distances are now published along with their corresponding finish times and approximate average pace on  Expect this list to be updated as more volunteer pacers fill up some vacant slots.
