This weekend had been a great one. Two races, two PRs, two finisher’s shirt, and Manny Pacquiao won! (Woohoo! And Manny did it via TKO!)
My first race of the weekend, Nokia Recycle You Phone and Run, allowed me to set a new PR for 5K (the longest distance of the fun run) and was a very nicely executed event, and did I mention that it’s free? It was also my first free fun run and Nokia was generous enough to provide a very good finisher’s shirt worthy of bragging rights.
The second race of the weekend, also my longest so far, was the Yakult 10-Miler. This was my first run with an injury but nonetheless was able to do better than my target time. This was my first beyond 10K run so it was exciting (and very tiring).
To finally cap this great weekend was of course the most anticipated fight of our “Pambasang Kamao” (National Fist) Manny Pacquiao with Oscar de la Hoya. Dubbed by a local media network as “Dream Fight,” which it really was, made runners, myself included, want to hurry home to watch the fight. Thankfully I was able to catch it at about Round 03 (live broadcast, not the delayed one on free TV) and of course know the good news as soon as it happened.
I was supposed to make this entry while the fight was happening but I really can’t since I was too concentrated with the fight, and since it was live you barely have any break. As soon as I’ve heard Manny Pacquiao won I decided to open my computer (after all the hoorays) and start writing this entry. Of course I didn’t publish it immediately; I didn’t want to spoil it to those watching TV and those who haven’t seen the fight yet. Don’t you just love the robe that Manny wore?
Congratulations Manny Pacquiao! You really deserved to win! Once again you gave glory to our country. And of course congratulations as well to all the runners that finished their weekend races!
(Do you think Manny’s boxing shorts are Dri-FIT?)
