What were you doing back in 1991? Some of you may not even be born yet at that time. Back then I was in my elementary school days and if you ask me I don’t really remember things that happened aside from schooling. Looking up the major events that transpired the year via Wikipedia, here are some of the results I found:
- The eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century (June 15)
- The announcement of the World Wide Web project and software on the alt.hypertext newsgroup by Tim Berners-Lee which would eventually make the internet as we know it today (August 6)
- The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is released in the United States (also known as Super Famicom in Japan and Southeast Asia) (August 13)
- Collapse of the Soviet Union (August 19)
So what’s the reason for the sudden burst of nostalgia with 1991? Nothing. 🙂 I just realized that my running mileage (races, long runs, recreational runs, etc.) since I started almost two years ago has reached 1,991 kilometers as of July 29, 2010 with my Ortigas Park to Trinoma via EDSA (9K) easy run last night. I can practically smell that first 2,000 kilometers…
