Ped Xing

Metro Manila residents may not notice it but traffic lights in progressive cities are now being replaced by more energy efficient LEDs.  Aside from having more even and brighter lighting than the old incandescent traffic lights, these new LED traffic lights have new tricks up their sleeves: most have timers on how long before the lights change and even sport some new animations on pedestrian crossings.  I’ve seen quite a few variants in different places in different places throughout the Metro and below is my favorite, but sadly I only saw them within the confines of SM malls!

Can you see how many “pixels” were required to do such impressive rendering?  Who knows, maybe in the future traffic lights would be in HD! 😀

  1. Nice eh! I worked in this industry and installed hundreds of traffic lights in the Metro back in the early 1990’s but it’s sad to know that they are being disregarded and dismantled by the previous administration. What’s exciting now is the evolution of the traffic light system.

These units at the SM premises are a good example, pero sana kung gaano kabilis ang movement nung nasa display, ganun din kabilis tumawid ang mga pedestrian, hahaha. Parang namamasyal lang kasi eh!

With matching exaggerated effort while crossing haha 🙂 Good thing there’s a countdown timer for us to know when to rush.
