My 2016 In Review

It’s that time of the year again when it’s time to look back at what was accomplished and what remains to be done.  I’m so glad that for the most part, I have mine documented here so I can make a lookback at the year that was, more conveniently.

2016
Some highlights from my 2016

January

The year started on a pretty solid ground as I was able to establish a goal for me to accomplish for the year (in terms of running mileage that is).  Since I have it posted, I have no excuse to forget it.  And I’m proud to say that I had this accomplished just before the year ends!  Some notable events for this is month is discovering a new curry and kimchi place.

The image I used for my first post of the year was taken somewhere in the deserts between California and Nevada.  It reminded me how big the world is and that a lot of things are still possible.

February

The month of love took me back to one of my favorite places in the Philippines, Baguio City to cover a basketball selection camp, and to eat!  I also discovered Circuit Makati.

This love month I got to experience love…of food! 🐷

March

Holy Week arrived early this year and as usual, I did my Visita Iglesia.  I also got to cover an Ironman 70.3 event (including an underpants run) and joined the inaugural session of the Nike+ Run Club (NRC) Manila.

This is definitely something that you do not see everyday!  Maybe one day I can join this as well! 🙈

April

This is one jam-packed month!  It was opened with the reintroduction of Camp N in Nuvali, followed by my return to the trails with Salomon X-Trail RunA shoe brand makes a return to the country and I got to try some “ninja moves.”  And I also learned new things about coffee!

May

May continued my outdoor adventures with my return to trail ultra-running with TNF 100.  It also gave me some fitness activities via Alpha Strength and started my transition to a new gym.

Trail-running is my first love and I will always have a love affair with TNF100! 💚

June

The start of the rainy season, the start of my lean season as well.  I went to Boracay on this month but failed to post it until the following month.

Rainy season for most, belated summer for me… 😎

July

Finally posted my story about my past month’s trip to Boracay.  Looking back, I actually failed to do a review of our very nice hotel.  Other than that, I went back to Nuvali for some epic running and pictorial session with NRC MNL.

This is just one of the most epic photos taken of me! 😍

August

This is the month when Pokémon GO was launched in the Philippines!  It was pretty disruptive as it even took over my running.  This is also the month when my Mizuno Wave Rider 19 arrived.

Always one of my favorite spots for running, Rizal Park. 🇵🇭

September

One of the major highlights of the year for this blog happened on this month as we became a dot com site officially!  The old links should still work though and would refer you to the new address.

After all these years, we’re officially runningpinoy.com!

October

After months of hiatus, I finally got back to running this month as an RUPM 10K pacer.  I also posted my review of the Mizuno Wave Rider 19 this month and was able to squeeze in a Halloween run.

Manila Bay sunset during my Halloween run.

November

This is my birth month and a feast courtesy of Island Cove’s Taste Cavite couldn’t have come in a more perfect timing!  It’s really one of the best collection of dishes I’ve sampled this year.  Also this month, the Festival of Lights at Ayala Triangle Gardens started their nightly show.  It was a very memorable month for me, as summarized in this post.

December

Last month of the year, still packing with activities.  The month opened with my first ever Music Run experience where I got to reunite with long unseen friends.  I also got to discover the currently longest linear park in Metro Manila, BGC Greenway Park, which became my new go-to place as I cram for mileage to complete my yearly goal (completed with room to spare!).  My Fitbit Charge 2 also arrived this month to help me track my mileage as my former toy, Garmin Fenix 3 had a broken band and cannot be worn as usual.  I think this was also the first time I did a Christmas Day run!

While everyone is indulging in their feasts, I spent some time in the gym on Christmas Day!

* * *

I can’t believe that 2016 is already coming to a close.  It was a good year for me overall!  Coming into the next year, I’m hoping that I could do more races, especially trails, and more mileage.  I’m also hoping that I could start sharing some more fitness advice on top of running.  I’m also hoping for more chance to travel and see the beauty of the world. ✈️

May we all have a happy, safe, and more blessed New Year!  🍾
